I am writing to support Josh Chapman for Davis City Council, District 5. Many Davis residents know Josh as the owner of Armadillo Music and a leader in the Downtown Davis business community. Others know Josh as a dedicated volunteer at Marguerite Montgomery Elementary School (where his boys attend) and through Davis youth sports, where for years Josh has coached baseball, soccer and flag football.
However, many Davis voters may not know the history behind Josh’s dedication to public service. After graduating from college (the first in his family to do so), Josh signed up for AmeriCorps and spent a year volunteering at the Boys and Girls Club in Southeast Washington, D.C. Josh then moved to California, where he earned a master’s degree in education with a focus on social justice and equity.
Josh then worked at San Francisco General hospital with juvenile delinquency-involved youths who suffered from serious mental-health issues. After Josh moved to Davis, along with running a small business and raising his family, Josh found the time to educate middle-school students across Yolo County on suicide prevention and mental-health awareness.
South Davis has long needed a committed voice on the Davis City Council which reflects our community’s values. Josh will lead Davis with compassion and a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and sustainability. I hope you will join me in voting for Josh Chapman for Davis City Council.
